Resilienceapac – From Digital Depression care to large-scale vaccination programs, Southeast Asia is undergoing a major shift in healthcare reform. Since 2024, the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Regional Office has been driving change through a five-pillar roadmap focusing on mental health, equity, technology, workforce capacity, and leadership.
Digital innovation has played a vital role in tackling mental health challenges, especially depression. Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh have introduced mobile-based tools and remote consultations to provide accessible care for those struggling with mental health a strategy known as “From Digital Depression care.” These efforts have extended psychological support to rural populations, reducing treatment gaps and social stigma.
From Digital Depression solutions to mental health workforce training, the roadmap promotes inclusive growth. Bangladesh and Thailand have launched wide-reaching programs to upskill mental health professionals and integrate early screening into primary care systems.

Beyond mental health, the focus on equity means ensuring healthcare reaches the most vulnerable. Technologies are now adapted to local languages and cultural settings, enhancing usability. These inclusive approaches are helping to balance healthcare disparities in low-resource areas.
In addition to gains in mental health, Southeast Asia has celebrated a critical milestone 100% HPV vaccine coverage in countries like Bhutan and Timor-Leste. This achievement not only safeguards future generations from cervical cancer but also reflects the strength of coordinated public health efforts.
Meanwhile, investments in oxygen supply systems and expanded community-based care have increased resilience against future health emergencies. These developments show that the region’s transformation is not just about technology, but also about building trust, access, and long-term health infrastructure.
From Digital Depression care to universal vaccination, Southeast Asia’s journey shows how visionary leadership, community engagement, and innovation can reshape public health. With WHO’s guidance, the region is setting a model for integrated, equitable, and sustainable healthcare reform.
