Resilienceapac – Bali Launches Climate Resilience Hub at the 10th World Water Forum held in May 2024, marking a significant step forward in the Asia-Pacific’s fight against climate-induced disasters. The newly established Center of Excellence (CoE) on Water and Climate Resilience aims to serve as a collaborative platform for countries in the Global South especially those frequently impacted by water-related disasters to share knowledge, technologies, and strategies for sustainable adaptation.
The launch was not only a regional milestone but also a reflection of Indonesia’s proactive leadership in environmental diplomacy. As an archipelagic nation that has long grappled with water security and climate-related vulnerabilities, Indonesia played a crucial role in shaping the vision of the center. With its unique challenges and successes in managing water and climate resilience, Indonesia is now sharing its experience and technological innovations with the broader region.

Bali Launches Climate Resilience Hub with strong support from the Indonesian government, leveraging its experience in water crisis management. Among the showcased innovations was the Sabo technology, a technique developed to mitigate the impact of volcanic debris flows and manage sediment movement during extreme weather. This local innovation stands as a symbol of how indigenous solutions can be scaled to address global climate challenges.
Indonesia’s contribution also lies in its ability to bridge science, policy, and community-based practices. By integrating traditional knowledge with modern technologies, the country exemplifies how resilience can be both effective and culturally grounded. The Hub will further develop these solutions into transferable models that other Asia-Pacific nations can adapt and adopt.
Bali Launches Climate Resilience Hub not just as a response to urgent climate risks. But as a vision for a more unified Asia-Pacific. The CoE will foster regional cooperation through joint research, policy development, capacity building, and early warning systems. Its presence in Bali an island emblematic of both vulnerability and cultural resilience sends a powerful message about the region’s readiness to face future challenges together.
Moving forward, the Hub is expected to attract global attention and funding. Encouraging more international stakeholders to support Asia-Pacific’s path toward sustainable water management and climate resilience. In the years to come, this center could well become a blueprint for regional resilience hubs worldwide.
