Resilienceapac – Bali Faces Massive floods struck the island on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, following continuous heavy rainfall that began the previous night. The torrential downpour affected almost every major region, including Denpasar, Jembrana, Klungkung, and Karangasem. Floodwaters submerged neighborhoods in Denpasar, including Padangsambian, Pura Demak, and Ubung. The overflowing Tukad Badung River blocked main roads, and strong currents swept away several buildings, including a three-story house on Jalan Hasanuddin.
Jembrana also suffered heavily, with Hotel Hardys flooded, forcing tourists to evacuate. On Pulau Misol and Pulau Biak 1, two residents were reported missing. In Klungkung, around 60 families in Banjar Pancingan were relocated to village offices and community centers. Meanwhile, landslides in Karangasem blocked access to several areas, adding further complications to rescue and relief efforts.

Bali Faces Massive floods left devastating consequences for the local population. Tragically, two residents in Jembrana lost their lives due to the rising waters. Floodwaters submerged thousands of homes, overturned vehicles, and rendered critical roads unusable. The disaster severely disrupted daily life, and authorities evacuated tourists from affected hotels.
In addition to flooding, landslides and structural collapses occurred across multiple districts, worsening the impact on the island. Emergency authorities coordinated relief efforts to ensure affected families received immediate support, including shelter, food, and medical care. The combined effects of these floods have placed enormous strain on local infrastructure and emergency services.
Meteorologists from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) identified the active Rossby wave phenomenon as a key factor causing heavy rainfall and extreme flooding. Poor drainage systems and clogged waterways further intensified the disaster, highlighting long-term infrastructure challenges.
In response, SAR teams, BPBD units, and security forces mobilized to evacuate residents and provide emergency support. The Governor of Bali confirmed that four traders remain missing and are being actively searched. Authorities continue to urge residents to remain alert as the risk of secondary floods and landslides persists.
Bali Faces Massive floods serve as a stark reminder of the island’s vulnerability to extreme weather events, emphasizing the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and infrastructure to protect both residents and visitors.
